Archeopteryx is a San Francisco bay area band that shares the intensity and musicianship of other 2-piece bands like Lightning Bolt or Hella. Their sound alternates between soothing hypnotic rhythms and chaotic thrash. The two friends' ten-year relationship has culminated in this 13-song full length 10", their second proper release that follows up a split with Get Get Go on Pandacide. One of the seven necessities of life is adaptation to one's environment, and it is Santiago's aim to know exactly what the fuck kind of environment we are destined to adapt to. Thus the acclaimed indie rock band's long-awaited second full-length album, Rosenberg's After Dark  a loud, explosive meditation on the ties that bind, dedicated to the band's own hometown, Santa Rosa, CA.

Since 2002, Santiago has proven themselves as "one of the more intelligent and gifted local bands to take a Sonoma County stage in the past several years" (John Beck, The Press Democrat). With a wide span of influences and a focus on content over sheen, Santiago transcends the usual indie-rock cliché of the weed-trimmer hairstyle and hi-hat backbeat. Often fiery, sometimes tender, but always too goddamn loud, Santiago's enduring songs are a testament to the band's keen skills of elevated writing.

Named for the long-standing department store that once towered over Santa Rosa's downtown, Rosenberg's After Dark utilizes the things of the past - crumbling storefronts, reckless founding fathers, shocking local lore - to make sense of a city's shaky future. Alternately angry, overwhelmed, determined, and ultimately hopeful, the album's narrators provide a vivid snapshot of a small town fighting sprawl, and one band's resistance to the impending loss of its own city's culture.
